A Reflection from Yale

Yale reflected

Like braided streams, men meander, goosenecks veering, never sure of their heading, of the way through the Maze of their own thoughts.

They crave the unbroken expanse of being, yet they deny the sacred space before them, hoping, pleading, negotiating with the non-negotiable for an eternal future, all the while, ignoring the moment. Their meanders become tortured. They wander the tortoise’s back and become lost within its indentations.

They cry for the Jesus man to become God and die for them, for the Dalai Lama to come and bless them with his smile, for a Virgin or a whore to succor them from a breast, sacred or profane. And God answers their lamentations and comes to them in a holy instant and they miss it, and see the savior whom Love has dispatched to them as a meth addict or as a prostitute or as a goddamn sex offender instead.

Men maunder past me, drunken, whored, bribed, wending the chasm. They down-cut deeper into the shadowy world, for all they know is digging. Believing they shall reach the light on the other side of the world if only they dig deep enough. So poor is Miles Holland, that he must make a savior out of me.
